Leucocoprinus cepistipes (Sow. ex Fr.) Pat. syn. Lepiota cepistipes (Sow. ex Fr.) Pat. Cap 2-8cm across, oval becoming broadly bell-shaped to nearly flat with a distinct umbo; white to pale pinkish, more yellowish or darker in age; dry, powdery, mealy, becoming warty or scaly in age and margin clearly lined. Gills free, crowded, narrow; white. Stem 40-120x3-6mm, sometimes swollen in places, with an enlarged base; white becoming tinged with flesh-pink, bnrising straw yellow; smooth or with a slight bloom. Veil forms a large, thick, white, easily detachable ring on the upper part of the stem. flesh thin; white, sometimes bruising yellowish. Odor mild. Taste mild. Spores broadly ellipsoid, with a germ pore, smooth, weakly dextrinoid, 8.5-9 x 6.5-7µ. Deposit white. Habitat in dense tufts on wood chips, sawdust, rich soil, and organic matter. Common in the East. Found widely distributed in North America also in Europe where it is usually found in greenhousesin pots. Season June-September. Not edible- possibly poisonous. |
